Retirement gifts for the time they now have
Retirement gifts work best when they feed a hobby they finally have time for: the garden, the birds, reading, golf. Skip the joke gifts; they get a cupboard full.

1. SOLIOM BF02 2K Solar Bird Feeder Camera
AI bird identification · 135-degree wide angle · 5000mAh battery, 3W solar panel · 2K, colour night vision
Retirement means time to watch the garden, and this tells them what they are looking at. The listing confirms a 2K camera, a solar panel that keeps the battery topped up and AI identification of over 11,000 species, with alerts sent through the Soliom app. It only connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so check the signal reaches the spot where the feeder will hang.

Best for readers
2. Amazon Kindle 16GB (2024, without ads)
None · 6-inch glare-free · Up to 6 weeks · 16GB
For the person with a long list of books they never had time for. The listing confirms a 6-inch glare-free screen with adjustable light and dark mode, 16GB of storage and up to 6 weeks per charge. The screen is 6 inches, so a reader who likes large print gets fewer words on each page.

Best for the garden
3. Kynup 9-Piece Garden Tool Set with Bag
9, including trowel, fork, weeder, pruning shears and gloves · Tote bag · Stainless steel with wooden handles
A fresh set for someone who finally has weekday afternoons in the garden. The listing confirms stainless steel tools on wooden handles, a transplanter with depth markings, a weeder, pruning shears, gloves and a repotting mat, all in a tote bag. The nine pieces include the gloves and mat, so a keen gardener who already owns a good trowel gets less from it than a beginner.

Best for the knees
4. Crystals 2-in-1 Garden Kneeler Seat
Foldable, lightweight · Kneeler and seat in one · EVA foam · Detachable 3-pouch tool bag
Flip it one way to kneel on and the other to sit on, with handles to push up on when it is time to stand. The listing confirms EVA foam padding, a folding frame and a tool bag that fits in either position. The listing gives no weight limit, so check that before buying for a heavier gardener.

Best for keeping up with family
5. BIGASUO Frameo 10.1in WiFi Photo Frame
Frameo · 10.1-inch IPS touchscreen, 1280 x 800 · 32GB · Wall mountable
The grandchildren's photos land on the sideboard without anyone printing them. The listing confirms a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 32GB of storage and sharing through the Frameo app, so the family send pictures straight from their phones. It needs Wi-Fi to receive new photos, so it suits a home with broadband.

Best for golfers
6. LynxFlex Golf Putting Mat Set (270cm)
Indoor and outdoor · 270 x 39 cm · 2 balls, gift box · Two 47cm return tracks
For the golfer who can now play midweek and wants to stop three-putting. The listing confirms a 270cm putting surface for indoors or out, two tracks that send the ball back and two balls in a gift box. At 39cm wide it is a straight practice strip, so it will not teach them to read a slope.

Best for long lunches
7. Alpina Glass Wine Decanter (1.78L)
20 x 24cm · Bevelled · 1.78L
Long lunches are allowed now, and this holds a full bottle with room to breathe. The listing confirms 1.78 litres of glass with a bevelled pourer, and it rinses clean with warm water. It is a plain carafe with no aerator or filter, so a serious wine drinker may want something more elaborate.

Best budget gift
8. MOJIGE Chicken Coop 1000-Piece Jigsaw Puzzle
1000 · Recycled card, about 1.8mm thick · 70 x 50cm
A rainy-afternoon gift for the kitchen table and a week with nothing in the diary. The listing confirms 1000 pieces of recycled card, a 70 x 50cm picture of hens in a coop and a poster to work from. MOJIGE is a small brand rather than a puzzle name like Ravensburger, so treat it as a cheap extra rather than the main present.
Nothing matches those filters. Try fewer filters, or search for a brand like "MSI" or "Crucial".
How we rank
Chosen from what is selling on Amazon UK in each category on the day we checked, inside the price cap, and only if it was in stock. Ordered by how useful the gift is to the person it is for, then price. We have not handled these products: the write-ups rest on what each listing states. Prices and stock are checked daily.
Prices are Amazon UK and eBay UK at the time we last checked; they move daily, so confirm on the retailer's page. We earn a small commission if you buy through our links, at no cost to you. It never changes the order. More about how we work.
