Gifts for a new mum
Everyone brings something for the baby, so bring something for her: a big water bottle with a straw for night feeds, a soft robe, slippers she can shuffle round in. Comfort beats cute.

Best for night feeds
1. Super Sparrow FlipFlow Insulated Bottle (1L)
Flip-top, one-handed · 1 litre · Dishwasher safe · Double-wall stainless steel
The one she will reach for most: feeding a baby is thirsty work and one hand is always busy. The listing confirms a 1-litre insulated steel bottle with a flip-top straw for one-handed drinking and a carry handle. A litre of water in a metal bottle is heavy, so it lives by the chair rather than in a changing bag.

Best for living in
2. KATE MORGAN Shimmer Hooded Dressing Gown
Yes · UK 8-10 to 20-22 · 2 front pockets
She will live in a dressing gown for the first few weeks, so give her a soft new one rather than the old one from the back of the door. The listing confirms a hood, two front pockets and UK sizes from 8-10 up to 20-22. This listing is size 12-14, so choose her size on the page before ordering.

Best for shuffling around
3. RockDove Original Two-Tone Memory Foam Slippers
Rubber, anti-skid · Waffle knit · Memory foam
Slippers she can push her feet into at 3am without bending down. The listing confirms memory foam cushioning, a breathable waffle-knit upper and a rubber anti-skid sole for popping outside. This listing is size 5-6, so check her size before you order.

Best for hot drinks
4. Contigo Byron Snapseal Travel Mug (470ml)
Leakproof Snapseal, one-handed · 470ml · Hot for up to 7 hours, cold for up to 12
New mums are known for finding their tea cold an hour later, and the listing says this keeps it hot for up to 7 hours. The lid slides open and shut with one hand and locks leakproof, which matters with a baby on the other arm. Only the lid goes in the dishwasher, so the steel body is a hand wash.

5. Amazon Kindle 16GB (2024, without ads)
None · 6-inch glare-free · Up to 6 weeks · 16GB
Night feeds are long, and a Kindle can be held and paged with one hand in a dark room. The listing confirms a 6-inch glare-free screen with an adjustable front light, dark mode and up to six weeks per charge, and this version has no ads. It is the basic Kindle rather than the Paperwhite, so there is no waterproofing listed.

Best for the sofa
6. PROALLER Heated Throw (160x130cm)
Machine washable · 10 levels · 160 x 130 cm · 1 to 9 hours, auto-off
The sofa becomes her base for weeks, and a heated throw makes long feeds and short naps more comfortable. The listing confirms ten heat settings, an auto-off timer of up to nine hours and machine washing, which helps with a newborn about. Keep it for her, not the baby: heated blankets are not for infants.

7. Sanctuary Spa Lost In The Moment Gift Set
Vegan, cruelty-free, mineral oil-free · 5: salt scrub, body butter, bath float, hand cream, heel balm · Jasmine, grapefruit and vanilla
A gift set for her, not the baby, from a well-known UK spa brand. The listing confirms five products, including a body butter, hand cream and heel balm, in a heart-shaped box. Time for a bath is short in the early weeks, so the hand cream may get more use than the bath float.

Best budget gift
8. MyHalos Blackout Sleep Mask
Memory foam · 3D contoured, zero eye pressure · Flexible nose piece
Daytime naps are how new mums catch up, and a blackout mask makes a bright bedroom usable at 2pm. The listing confirms a contoured memory foam design that keeps pressure off the eyes and a nose piece that shapes to block light. It is a small gift on its own, so pair it with something else from this list.

How we rank
Chosen from what is selling on Amazon UK in each category on the day we checked, inside the price cap, and only if it was in stock. Ordered by how useful the gift is to the person it is for, then price. We have not handled these products: the write-ups rest on what each listing states. Prices and stock are checked daily.
Prices are Amazon UK and eBay UK at the time we last checked; they move daily, so confirm on the retailer's page. We earn a small commission if you buy through our links, at no cost to you. It never changes the order. More about how we work.
