Best electric blankets to buy right now
An electric underblanket warms the bed for pennies an hour, far less than heating the room. Buy one with dual controls if you share a bed, an auto shut-off timer, and a washable cover; Dreamland and Silentnight are the established names.

Best for most people
1. Silentnight Comfort Control (double)
135 x 120cm · Microfleece · Machine washable · 5
The best seller of the underblankets here and the one most people should buy for a double bed: five heat settings, a digital controller and soft microfleece, with overheat protection and machine washing listed in the title. The listing says it sits back from the bed edges to stay flat for safety. It has one controller, so couples who like different warmth should look at a dual-control model.

Best for couples
2. Dreamland Bamboo Dual Control (double)
190 x 137cm · Bamboo · 2 detachable · 6
The one for couples who disagree on warmth: two detachable LED controllers heat each side independently, with six settings each. The listing says the bamboo fabric suits sensitive skin and Intelliheat warms the bed in about five minutes. The listing does not mention a shut-off timer, so check the manual if that matters to you.

Best for super king beds
3. Silentnight Dual Control (super king)
160 x 200cm · 2 digital · 4
Covers a super king with two digital controllers, so each sleeper sets their own half. The listing says the soft-touch fabric sits back from the edges so it stays flat. It has four heat settings, fewer than the Morphy Richards or Dreamland, and the listing does not mention a timer.

Best for fine heat control
4. Morphy Richards EverCosy Premium (double)
150 x 122cm · 1–9 hours · Teddy fleece · 9 (20–57°C)
For anyone who finds five settings too coarse: nine heat levels from 20 to 57°C and a one-to-nine-hour timer, with overheat protection and auto shut-off. It is soft teddy fleece and machine washable, per the listing. It has one controller, so it suits one sleeper or a couple who agree on warmth.
-
Best reversible for all seasons
5. Dreamland Hunker Down (king)
King · 1, 3 or 9 hours · Reversible sherpa · 6
A king-size blanket with a sherpa side for winter and a lighter side for milder nights, held on by elasticated corner straps that the listing says suit deep mattresses. Intelliheat+ warms the bed within five minutes and adjusts through the night, with six settings and a 1, 3 or 9-hour shut-off. The listing mentions one digital controller, so there is no separate control for each side of the bed.
-
Best for the sofa
6. Beurer HD75 Heated Throw
180 x 130cm · 100W · BSS overheat sensor · 6
A heated throw for evenings on the sofa rather than the bed, sized at 180 by 130cm with six temperature settings. The listing says Beurer's BSS sensor guards against overheating and the throw switches off automatically, and it is machine washable. It is a throw, so it will not warm the mattress the way an underblanket does.

Best throw with a timer
7. PROALLER Heated Throw 160x130cm
The best seller of all the blankets here, a reversible flannel and sherpa throw with ten heat settings and a one-to-nine-hour timer. The listing says it carries UKCA marking and cuts the power if it overheats. It comes from a little-known brand and is smaller than the Beurer throw.
Nothing matches those filters. Try fewer filters, or search for a brand like "MSI" or "Crucial".
How we rank
Ordered by how well each sells in its Amazon UK category, what the listing confirms it can do, and price. We have not handled these products: the write-ups rest on what each listing states. Prices and stock are checked daily.
Prices are Amazon UK and eBay UK at the time we last checked; they move daily, so confirm on the retailer's page. We earn a small commission if you buy through our links, at no cost to you. It never changes the order. More about how we work.
