Gifts for 12 year old boys
At twelve, gaming and their own room matter most: a headset, LED lights, a speaker, a decent controller. If he is outdoorsy, a camera drone or a football rebounder beats another screen gadget.

Best for gamers
1. Turtle Beach Recon 70
Flip-to-mute · 40mm · Xbox, PlayStation, PC and mobile · 3.5mm wired
The safe first headset for a twelve-year-old who plays online with his friends. The listing confirms it works on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and phones through a 3.5mm jack, with a mic that mutes when flipped up. It is wired, so he stays tethered to the controller or the PC.

Best build
2. LEGO Technic Ducati Desmo450 MX Factory Motorcycle 42238
10+ · 457 · Working steering, suspension, chain-driven engine
A proper evening's build pitched at the right level: the box says 10 and up and it has 457 pieces. The listing confirms working steering, front and rear suspension and a chain-driven engine, plus a stand for the shelf afterwards. A quick builder may finish it in one sitting, so it is a present rather than a holiday-long project.

Best speaker
3. Anker Soundcore 2
12W · Up to 24 hours · IPX7
A speaker from a brand with a long track record, for music in his room or the garden. The listing confirms 12W of sound, IPX7 waterproofing and up to 24 hours of play. 12W fills a bedroom, not a big garden party.

Best outdoor gadget
4. FAKJANK F417PRO Drone
1080p · Gesture and tilt control · Built-in screen
For the outdoorsy twelve-year-old who would rather fly something than play something. The listing confirms a 1080p camera and a screen built into the controller, so he sees the live view without borrowing a phone. FAKJANK is a little-known brand, and UK rules can require CAA registration for camera drones while the listing gives no weight, so check the CAA website before the first flight.

Best for his room
5. Mexllex 10m LED Strip Lights
Timer and music sync · 10m · Remote and phone app
The cheapest way to change how his room feels, and the best seller among the LED strips we looked at. The listing confirms 10 metres on one roll, a remote, a phone app and a mic that makes the lights pulse to music. The strip sticks on with adhesive that can take paint with it when removed, so agree where it goes first.

Best for football fans
6. Amazing Tour Football Rebounder
Powder-coated steel · 5 positions · Folds flat
For the boy who is outside with a ball whenever he can be. The listing confirms a powder-coated steel frame, a net that sets at five angles for passing, volleys and headers, and a frame that folds away. It needs a garden or yard with space behind it, because a missed shot keeps going.

Best budget gift
7. Nerf Elite 2.0 Commander RD-6
8+ · 12 included · Up to 27 metres · 6-dart rotating drum
A cheap, quick win that still gets used at twelve, especially with a brother or friends round. The listing confirms a six-dart rotating drum, slam fire and 12 darts in the box. Foam darts vanish under sofas fast, so a refill pack is worth adding.

Best stocking filler
8. ROXENDA 3x3 Speed Cube
3x3, stickerless · Adjustable
A pocket puzzle that keeps a twelve-year-old busy long after the wrapping is gone, once he looks up a solving method. The listing confirms a stickerless 3x3 with adjustable tension, so there are no stickers to peel. It is a budget cube, not a magnetic competition model, which keen solvers will want later.
Nothing matches those filters. Try fewer filters, or search for a brand like "MSI" or "Crucial".
How we rank
Chosen from what is selling on Amazon UK in each category on the day we checked, inside the price cap, and only if it was in stock. Ordered by how useful the gift is to the person it is for, then price. We have not handled these products: the write-ups rest on what each listing states. Prices and stock are checked daily.
Prices are Amazon UK and eBay UK at the time we last checked; they move daily, so confirm on the retailer's page. We earn a small commission if you buy through our links, at no cost to you. It never changes the order. More about how we work.
